Gracie Barra Hamburg City

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a fascinating martial art, in which ground fighting gets perfected. Within the last years Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu became more and more popular throughout Europe. Not least because of its role in MMA fights.

Since 2011 the BJJ-Team is led by the Brazilian Professor André Nunes. The Zanshin Dojo is therefore one of a few BJJ Academies in Europe in which the training is permanently led by a Gracie Barra Blackbelt.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Hamburg since 2002

Despite the fact that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is quite a young sport in Europe, it already has tradition in the Zanshin Dojo. Ever since 2002 the Brazilian ground fighting has been part of our variety of training. Within this period of time we successfully have been working together with different Gracie Barra trainers. The first Gracie Barra Blackbelt that has been living in Hamburg permanently took over the BJJ training in 2005 already, so that we have all belt levels till brown and black represented.

BJJ: Perfection on the ground

The fighters of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu distinguish themselves by their perfection in ground fighting which represents training and fighting. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu there is also fighting without a GI (No-Gi) but because of the risk of injuries, the techniques of the competitive sport is mainly taught with a GI.

The training consists of, among others:

  • Armbar, shoulder lock, wrist lock
  • Choking techniques with or without jacket
